  • Open High School of Utah

    The Open High School of Utah is an online public charter school that uses OER exclusively for its curriculum. Fully accredited, the school now counts 250 students in grades 9 and 10 with 11th graders to be added in 2011 and 12th graders in 2012.

  • Oregon Virtual School District

    The Oregon Virtual School District is funded by the state legislature and provides materials for free use by public school teachers throughout the state. The district is primarily a repository of learning materials, course templates and other resources that individual teachers can access and adapt to fit their classroom needs. By providing customizable resources, the program helps infuse multimedia content into the classroom by overcoming resource and technology barriers.

Community College and Career Training Grants
$500 Million

The Department of Labor (DoL) currently seeks grant proposals focused on community colleges strengthen their education and training programs.  DoL grant funding will support innovative program models or the replication of evidence-based strategies and be used for a wide range of activities, so long as the activities align with the program’s four priorities. Among other things, funding may be used for developing and delivering new open courses, open educational resources, curricula, obtaining instructional supplies and equipment, and implementing and enhancing information technology used to provide education and training.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Purpose Strengthen the nation’s education and training programs and improve education and employment outcomes, with a focus on high-wage, high-skill occupations.

Who May Apply Institutions of Higher Education offering programs that can be completed in not more than two years (including public, proprietary, or other nonprofit educational institutions). Consortium applications may be filed by two or more eligible institutions.
Grants Range Individual grants will range from $2.5 million to $5 million.  Consortia grants will range from $2.5 million to $20 million. These ceilings may be exceeded under certain limited conditions.
Grant Period The grant funding generally will cover a 36-month project period, although shorter funding periods may be proposed.

2.   Improve Retention and Achievement Rates to Reduce Time to Completion

3.   Build Programs that Meet Industry Needs, Including Developing Career Pathways

Cost Sharing Cost sharing or matching funds are NOT required, but are encouraged.
